History

The team was formed in October, 1974, when a group of enthusiasts met for the first time in a Cleckheaton pub - the Ring o' Bells.

The impetus for starting a team to dance longsword came from Kathy Mitchell's workshops at the Whitby Folk Festival.  Most of the original team members also attended a Ceilidh Club - the Yorkshire Mixtures Folk Dance and Song Club - which at the time used to meet weekly in Heckmondwike.

Since then, we've had many homes and changes of personnel, but two of the original team still perform regularly!

Over the years, the team has danced at Folk Festivals and many local galas and charity events.  We also participated in the "Whitby Competitive Festival" for 25 consecutive years.  Sometimes we even managed to win it.   Each Boxing Day we tour some of the pubs in Spen Valley to perform the dances and to sing a few songs.
